The CCH - Congress Center Hamburg, which will reopen in 2022, is one of the most modern congress centers in Europe. With up to 50 multifunctional event rooms, it offers around 36,000 m² of space for congresses, conferences, trade fairs and other events.

As part of the extensive renovations, PROTONES equipped the Congress Center with a new sound system and an extensive media technology network.

Since the reopening, PROTONES has also supported the CCH in the management of events, the provision of additional materials and the maintenance of the existing event technology.

Our services for the CCH

In order to comprehensively cover the multi-storey building with wireless microphone signals, an advanced Shure Axient Digital system was chosen for the CCH. With 236 lines, it is one of the largest Axient Digital installations in Europe.

The requirements included individual planning and implementation of the digital radio technology, efficient use of the frequency spectrum, flexible adaptation of routes and antennas depending on the room layout and seamless integration into networks via Dante. An overarching sustainability requirement was also taken into account. This was expressed, among other things, in the fact that attention was paid to battery technology through to the reliability and durability of the systems during planning and installation.

The Axient Digital installation in the CCH consists of 59 AD4Q digital 4-channel radio receivers, which are operated with 82 ADX1 bodypack transmitters and 136 ADX2 handheld transmitters. For fast and efficient charging, 35 SBRC rack charging stations for up to eight Shure lithium-ion batteries are available both in the individual control rooms and as mobile units. Management and frequency monitoring are carried out via subnets in the Wireless Workbench software.

Thanks to the Dante integration from Axient Digital and the sophisticated antenna distribution, the routes can be routed quickly and flexibly, and the rooms can be used flexibly depending on the size of the event. For example, a large room can be divided into twelve smaller ones if required.

The PROTONES team ensured that the wireless systems are seamlessly integrated into the network via Dante and communicate with other components such as digital mixing consoles.

In the future, the CCH - Congress Center Hamburg plans to expand the Axient Digital System by 24 additional channels, bringing the total number of channels to 260.

The L-Acoustics L Series system installed by PROTONES Systems comprises a left/center/right configuration in the main hall (Hall 1), consisting of an L2 and an L2D loudspeaker for the left and right arrays, supplemented by a central cluster of an A10i Focus and two A10i Wide loudspeakers. In addition, four KS21 subwoofers per side in cardioid configuration provide first-class bass. Two X8 speakers are mounted for out-fill, while eight 5XT speakers are positioned above the edge of the stage for in-fill. The entire system is powered by L-Acoustics LA7.16i amplifiers and is integrated into the CCH's media technology network.

PROTONES was not only responsible for the technical installation at the CCH, but also developed customized solutions that meet the building's high sustainability goals. From the outset, attention was paid to ensuring the longevity of the systems and reducing the CO2 footprint.

An important aspect was the choice of sound reinforcement system. The L-Acoustics L Series used offers significant material savings compared to conventional line arrays: 56 % less paint, 30 % less wood and 60 % less steel. This efficiency not only leads to reduced transportation costs, but also actively contributes to reducing the ecological footprint. PROTONES is thus consistently committed to sustainable solutions in event technology.
