Modern Media Technology  for government, politics, and public engagement.

Future-proof communication at the heart of city government

Flensburg City Hall has been a defining feature of the cityscape of this city on the fjord for decades. This striking high-rise building on the edge of downtown houses not only the mayor’s office and the city council chamber but also numerous city administration departments, the city archives, and various meeting and event rooms.

To meet the growing demands for communication, hybrid collaboration, and modern event formats, PROTONES was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive upgrade of the media technology in several key locations.

The tour focused on the Council Chamber, the Citizens' Hall, the Europe Room, and the Paul Ziegler Room.

The Challenge

Today, municipal administrative buildings must do much more than simply provide traditional meeting rooms.

Political committee meetings, public events, press conferences, international delegations, and hybrid meeting formats place high demands on audio, video, and conferencing technology.

The challenge was to modernize existing technical systems while creating a unified, user-friendly, and future-proof infrastructure.

In addition, the new systems had to be integrated into ongoing administrative operations without restricting the use of the premises in the long term.

Our Approach

PROTONES developed a comprehensive renovation plan for the various meeting and event rooms in City Hall.

The focus was on improved speech intelligibility, state-of-the-art conference and interpretation technology, and the creation of optimal conditions for digital and hybrid communication formats.

Special attention was paid to ensuring that the systems are easy to use, so that employees, political bodies, and external users can utilize the technology efficiently and intuitively.

Implementation

As part of the project, the media systems in several key areas of City Hall were extensively modernized.

A key focus was on upgrading the audio technology. The existing sound reinforcement systems were overhauled and adapted to current requirements to ensure reliable speech transmission in the various rooms.

In addition, PROTONES installed state-of-the-art conference and interpretation equipment to support both domestic and international meetings and events.

The video technology also underwent a comprehensive upgrade. The modernization of the visual systems has laid the groundwork for modern presentations, digital meetings, and hybrid event formats.

The various components were integrated into a unified media infrastructure capable of responding flexibly to different usage scenarios.

The result

Thanks to the modernization of its media technology, Flensburg City Hall now has a high-performance, future-proof infrastructure for political committee work, administrative processes, and public events.

The new audio, video, and conferencing technology improves communication within the administration, supports hybrid work models, and creates optimal conditions for engaging with citizens and international guests.

This project serves as a prime example of PROTONES’ expertise in modernizing public facilities, where reliability, user-friendliness, and long-term investment security are key factors.

Optimum sound reinforcement in a compact form

PROTONES, in collaboration with NEXO's engineering support team, has proven that even relatively small installations of NEXO ID Series loudspeakers can provide superior performance and sound coverage. Fewer speakers simplify the installation process and help keep projects on budget.

In the "Paul Ziegler Room", two of the new ID84 column speakers were used, which are characterized by their particularly long range and variably adjustable vertical HF dispersion. A similar configuration is supplemented in the "Bürgersaal" by compact ID14 and ID24 loudspeakers to provide optimum sound coverage for the back rows. The "Europaraum" is covered with just three ID24 loudspeakers set at 60° and four ID14 loudspeakers. In the octagonal "Council Chamber" there is a central cluster of two ID24 loudspeakers at 120° and one at 90°, which together provide 280° coverage in an almost circular room, supplemented by four ID24 loudspeakers at the sides, set at 90°. NEXO's DTD controller and 4-channel DTDAMPS are used for amplification and processing.

The ID Series speakers are characterized by a very consistent sound with excellent speech intelligibility. Even coverage is crucial in applications such as this, as both the public and elected representatives need to hear every question and answer clearly. A good sound system is central to the democratic process, and PROTONES has been instrumental in making this a reality in Flensburg
