The Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin is one of Europe’s most renowned show venues. Spectacular productions, complex processes, and a wide range of involved trades require not only creative excellence on stage, but also a high-performance technical infrastructure behind the scenes.

To take the communication and networking of technical systems to a new level in the long term, PROTONES was commissioned to modernize key communication and network components.

The goal: To create a future-proof platform that meets the demands of modern show productions while ensuring maximum operational reliability.

The Challenge

Large-scale theater productions depend on precise workflows and seamless coordination among the various departments.

Stage management, stage technology, lighting, sound, video, and numerous other departments must be able to communicate reliably with one another at all times. At the same time, the demands placed on the underlying networks are constantly increasing as more and more systems are connected digitally.

The challenge was to modernize existing communication and network infrastructure without disrupting the day-to-day operations of one of Europe’s leading theaters.

In addition, an infrastructure should be established that can flexibly support future technical developments and remains scalable in the long term.

Our Approach

PROTONES developed a comprehensive solution that combines modern communication technology with a high-performance network infrastructure.

The focus was on reliability, flexibility, and future-proofing. The goal was to simplify communication between the teams involved while also creating a stable foundation for the increasing interconnection of technical systems.

Thanks to close coordination with the management of the Friedrichstadt-Palast, the new infrastructure was tailored precisely to the venue’s requirements.

Implementation

As part of the project, PROTONES installed the Riedel Artist central communication platform and the Riedel Bolero wireless intercom system.

The new solution enables flexible and reliable communication between the various technical disciplines and creates ideal conditions for coordinating complex productions.

In addition, state-of-the-art networking technology from Luminex was integrated, providing a high-performance, future-proof infrastructure to support the growing digitalization of event and media technology.

The combination of communications and networking technologies has resulted in a centralized technical platform that not only meets current requirements but also supports future expansions.

With this new infrastructure, the Friedrichstadt-Palast now has a modern communications and networking platform that meets the high standards of an internationally renowned show theater.

Technical teams benefit from faster communication channels, greater flexibility, and reliable connectivity between their systems. At the same time, the new infrastructure lays the groundwork for future technical developments and complex production requirements.
