Reliable infrastructure for an event with a wide reach
On February 25, 2024, more than 50,000 people gathered in Hamburg for a demonstration against right-wing extremism. The event stretched across a large section of Edmund-Siemers-Allee and placed high demands on the technical infrastructure.
PROTONES was commissioned to handle the technical planning and execution of the event and was responsible for the sound system, signal distribution, power supply, and management of the central audio equipment.
The goal was to ensure that speeches, music, and program segments were transmitted clearly and reliably throughout the entire event venue.
The Challenge
Large-scale events in public spaces require precise technical planning.
The main focus of this project was to ensure uniform sound coverage across an event area several hundred meters long. The route stretched from Grindelallee to Dammtor Station, and the sound system had to be configured so that the audio remained clearly intelligible from every location.
In addition, all systems had to operate reliably outdoors and be installed within a short setup time. At the same time, it was necessary to provide a high-performance infrastructure for speakers, artists, and event organizers.
Our Approach
PROTONES developed a sound reinforcement concept designed to ensure even sound distribution along the entire demonstration route.
In addition to the main sound system, several delay towers were used to compensate for time delays and ensure consistent speech intelligibility for the participants.
In addition, particular emphasis was placed on a flexible and sustainable energy supply to ensure that the technical infrastructure could be operated efficiently and independently.
Implementation
PROTONES installed a total of nine delay towers along the route to provide sound coverage for the event.
More than 100 loudspeakers from L-Acoustics’ K3, Kara II, and KS28 series were used. Thanks to the precise calibration of the systems, uniform and clear sound coverage was achieved throughout the entire event area.
In the central FOH and monitor area, the team relied on professional audio equipment, including a DiGiCo SD7 Quantum and a DiGiCo SD12 mixing console.
Shure Axient Digital wireless systems and Shure PSM1000 in-ear monitoring systems were used for wireless transmission to ensure the highest levels of reliability and audio quality.
Power for the delay towers was supplied via mobile Instagrid One Max power systems, enabling flexible and resource-efficient operation of the decentralized sound reinforcement infrastructure.
The result
Thanks to the successful implementation of the technical infrastructure, the event was able to be reliably amplified throughout the entire venue.
The combination of high-performance audio technology, precise system planning, and innovative power supply ensured clear speech intelligibility for tens of thousands of attendees.
This project serves as a prime example of PROTONES’ expertise in large-scale events held in public spaces, where technical scalability, operational reliability, and precise project management are critical to success.
